Since High School:
I attended Carthage College in Kenosha, WI, where I graduated
in 1971 with a B.A. degree in mathematics and teaching
credentials. I immediately started teaching math at MacArthur
Middle School in Prospect Heights, IL in the fall of ‘71. I met
Carol Lippens in 1976. Carol grew up in the Upper Peninsula of
Michigan but moved to Chicago after high school. We were
married in 1979 and had two children together: Kristina (1983)
and Matthew (1984). I continued my education and earned an
MS in Education through Northern Ill. University in 1985. In
1986 we moved to our present home in Rolling Meadows.
During my thirty-three years of teaching at MacArthur Middle
School, I taught math and coached cross country, basketball,
and track. I was able to retire at 55 in June of 2004. Now I work
part-time as a substitute teacher occasionally at my old school,
and also at Wheeling and Hersey. I also drive a van
occasionally for an expediting company out of Carol Stream. I
am very active at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Palatine; and for
recreation, I enjoy walking, riding my bicycle, bowling, golf, and
cruising in my ‘72 Oldsmobile Cutlass convertible. I also enjoy
getting together frequently with Chuck Nielsen (PHS ’67) and
Pam Wittenberg Nielsen (PHS ’68).
My daughter, Kristina, is teaching high school math at Lane
Tech Academy in Chicago; and my son, Matt, is a GM auto
technician at Marquardt of Barrington.
Our family suffered a major tragedy on July 13, 2006, when
Carol passed away after fighting breast cancer. It was her third
and most courageous battle with cancer over the past 22 years.
