Hi class of '67--
I'm looking forward to hearing your tales.
As for me, I've been living in Northern California the past 25
years. Of late, I haven't exactly remained planted; seems like
I'm often packing a suitcase. I'm travel editor for Contra Costa
Times, a newspaper in the East San Francisco Bay Area.
Since Palatine, I have lived in four states and traveled to
numerous countries. My two sons--Evan, 28, and Ethan, 25,
don't seem to be as infected with wanderlust--though Ethan
wandered to Philadelphia to get an architecture degree.
My husband, Jerry Andersen, is picking up on my nomadic
tendencies. He's currently living the bi-coastal lifestle,
spending his working life in North Carolina manufacturing
vaccines to save us from flu and bird flu pandemic, should it
ever happen. He gets home every few weeks.
I love our house here in Walnut Creek--it has a rural feel, but
is just a walk to stores and coffee shops, and 25 miles from
San Francisco. The window I'm gazing out as I write this looks
onto trees and pastures. I can hear the birds. When I went
through breast cancer treatment in 2004, I gazed out this
window and watched the wind in the trees. I was too tired to
do anything else. And I learned you can be that still, just
watching wind move trees.
These days my energy has finally all returned. I still go at a
harried pace in the newsroom, and do the hurry/scurry
routine when traveling. But I also do yoga to slow myself
down, and I don't forget to observe the trees.
Cheers to one and all--see you soon.
